Both NASA and the European Space Agency have run into some delays while planning their next missions for the exploration of Mars. In the interest of more efficient and practical exploration, the two agencies have now announced that they will share resources and knowledge in order to speed up research on the Red Planet.
Ed Weiler, the NASA Associate Administrator for Science, and David Southwood, the ESA Director of Science and Robotic Exploration, met on June 29 and 30 in Plymouth, England to discuss possibilities for a concrete and progressive program that would focus on Mars. The two agreed to create the Mars Exploration Joint Initiative (MEJI), a committee that will allow their agencies to interface with each other to identify, plan, and execute their Mars-related objectives.
